Their website says that it books up in SECONDS that you must be on the page and ready to press the reserve button right at 7 am 6 months prior to your date. (I think that 6 months is correct)

I tried for dates in the first part of April and it was sold completely out. I got a spot in an RV park just outside the SW entrance.

It's just got out of hand popularity wise. There has got to be a better system.

i never camp "in the valley"

choose one of the less crowded campgrounds on the south or north roads
above the valley floor

Try the Ahwahnee hotel instead
When we first visited in "76 it was $54/night now close to $600/night

In 2011 with a 26 ft Class C we pulled in with no reservation. Web site said no sites available, entrance sign said campground was full... We were assigned a site right away. Luck? Who knows... But it worked. Now with fifth wheel I don't think I would try that.

There are some very nice National Forest campgrounds just outside of Yosemite. I went to Yosemite last May and even though the park campgrounds had already been booked solid months in advance I had no trouble finding a National Forest campground. It was a very pretty campground. With my America The Beautiful Senior Pass it was half price too.
