To have a spike that will hold your post straight you can yse a CONCRETE FORM STAKE .
It looks like this :

I drive the solid steel spike into the ground with my 6 pound splitting maul .
I then can slip a 1 inch ( or larger ) pipe over the concrete form stake to support whatever I need .
The advantage is the concrete form stake is very durable and reuseable .
And the pipe I slide over it takes no damage from installation .
This concept also works for posts used to install a dining canopy and so forth .
