My wife was raised in a suburb just outside of Chicago. She was raised with a high level of paranoia.
My friend, mentioned in my OP, was born and raised in Brooklyn, so I initially attributed his "paranoia" to this. I would never consider giving him grief for doing things the way he does because it is engrained, and a big part of what makes him who he is. He is my friend and I like him just the way he is. One day, though, he will be able to give me grief when something on my site "walks away" and all of his stuff is still where he left it. That is, if I don't start doing things the way he does.
