I think it has more to do with the "type" of places you are staying. I have never been a victim of theft in any campground we have stayed at in the last six years we have been camping. However, most of the time we stay in State Park or Federal campgrounds. These facilities have a gate which is locked at night until early morning. Also, most of these campgrounds require all visitors to get some kind of pass even to ride thru the campground, so the management knows who comes and goes. I would suspect most thefts at campgrounds would come from "outsiders" who come in, take stuff, and leave, not from someone who is actually staying there in a camper. I usually leave stuff out at night and I am more worried about bad weather than potential theft. Could be I'm just too lazy to haul all that stuff in and out every day, but I try to relax and worry about "important" stuff like windstorms and ants!!
