My friend asked me if she and her boyfriend could rent my RV. They are both 60+ and capable. I don't know him, but I know her. She is responsible and I trust her with life's issues, but my immediate thought was "NO!".I don't owe her any reasoning, but my reasons are the wear and tear on the unit and general risks. This especially applies to the likelihood that something will happen to it while on the road, just as something likely would happen to me while on the road. Then in my mind the RV, our relationship, and my obligation to deal with any issues resulting from their use would ensue.Your thoughts?

If they don't know RV then they will break something.I used to buy and sell one RV/camper per year. Everytime, sorry wives, the wife would come in and pull or yank on a cabinet door that had a safety latch. I got to expect it and prevent it, but it took several broken latches to learn that people just think they can yank, pull, and generally terrorize the RV if it does not work like they think it should, not knowing it is latched for driving or other peculiar things you find in an RV... Guys do the same, but the women always try to operate things without getting instructions...There is a whole lot to communicate to your friend on how to operate an RV, it will overwhelm them possibly... dont park off-level without turning off the fridge, dont do this... dont do that... Yes, you are risking them unknowingly breaking stuff.That said, I know people who do rent, and you just charge enough to cover the expected damage.Here is one for example, Im not advertising anything, but this gives you an idea of what they charge and how it all works on the professional side.RV Rental AlabamaThere are many others you can do a non-google internet search for and find. Seems there are companies that can handle the rental for you, similar to renting a vacation cabin....I dont loan my RV out. I let a family member take a C out and it came back a mess

If they "borrow" it for free, they *might* be covered under your policy (which means any insurance claims will be against your policy, even if it's their fault). If they rent it, then your regular policy would almost certainly not cover it. You may say "Well we would tell the insurance company they borrowed it, not that they rented it", but if something bad happens like a blowout and they run off the road and get injured, then when they sue you and/or your insurance company to pay their medical bills, then the rental payment may be revealed. Even if you're certain that they wouldn't sue you for any reason, their own medical insurance may sue on their behalf to cover the medical claims.If you really want to do this, check with one of the RV Share rental places to see what their insurance requirements are, and maybe list your RV with that site and have them rent through there so you're covered by whatever liability insurance the rental site provides.

No way, there are just to many quirky things about RV's. To many things that can go wrong, clipping a curb and bending an axle, leaving the antenae up and breaking it. Wrecks, even just minor fender benders from not being used to towing a 30' box. Forgetting to store things and damaging inside on the road.I'd never ask someone to borrow an RV, or boat, there is just to big a chance of messing something up accidentally be know knowing things. The fact that they would ask tells me they don't know enough to handle it.

Not to be nit-picky, but if they rent it (signed contract + rental payment), then it will be covered under the renter's liability policy just like a rental car. It's a scenario that most people don't understand, but typical liability policies cover rentals. The renter's liability policy covers damage to the trailer as well as damage to any other parties (property damage and/or bodily injury) according to the renter's policy limits.Having said that, renting out an RV sounds like a horrible idea to me.
