I think what I find most interesting is the "they are salesmen" and "do your homework" Can you imagine a world where nobody was responsible for anything.
Jim: You remember that electrician I hired to wire up my hot tub?
Tim: Yes
Jim: Well he wired it wrong and Mary was electrocuted.
Tim: Well you should have done your homework Jim, When I had mine wired up I spent 2 weeks learning how to do it so I could be sure he was doing it right.
Replace electrician with any of 1000's of jobs where you are expected to take responsibility for your work. Apparently the only professions that you can get into without any responsibility are truck and RV sales.
The same people that think misleading customers when buying RV's is the customers fault will hold the 14 year old kid at McDonalds responsible for messing up their order.
Right idea, wrong example. Electricians are licensed by state, and a certified electrical inspector checks for specs before Mary jumps into the hot-tub ... That's not true on 'truck sales' -- no one comes in before the contract and says, "This truck can tow your TT."
Misleading customers is the salesman's fault. Not knowing he's doing it is the customer's fault.
