I would doubt that your detector is on the fritz since it correlates very closely to using a gas appliance. Figure out what's happening with the burner, and be thankful you had a working alarm to alert you to a potentially quite dangerous situation.

Good looking flam will be all blue. If more than the very tiniest flame tips are yellow, it means flame is starved for air and will be making carbon monoxide. Usually that is due to spider webs, wasp nests, or even dead stink bugs clogging things up.
