Carbon Monoxide detectors

Well, we bought a brand new one, hooks up to electrical with battery back-up(not sure how the one in the motorhome worked.

We hooked it up, and turned on the propane Blue Flame heater.

So far, nothing. No lights or warning signal.

Heater has been on 2 1/2 hours.

Door and windows closed.

Nothing. We've gone in and out for a while. It's getting hot in here so I turned it onto pilot lol

I'll probably still crack a window, and turn the heater down low.

Still have trouble trusting a mechanical device :o

  • hmmm...I think I saw a 9 volt heating blanket at Love's once. I should look into that.

well, it was set on 1. The chill was gone, but still a bit cold. Tolerable :)
  • We have an electric blanket on the bed that takes the chill out - same thing at home. We have two separate heat pumps at home, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. We never turn on the upstairs unit - never have to, even during the last sub-freezing period.

If you're operating the Blue flame according to instructions, it should NEVER set off the CO detector.

I hope you're not depending on the CO detector to tell you when to ventilate ...do follow all of Blue flame's directions per venting at all times.

Good advice - and since you're using propane, get a propane detector also.

  • also, it's been pretty cold, I wear 3 pair of long underwear to bed along with socks and a sweatshirt. Would be great to only wear maybe 1 pair long underwear and ditch the socks. Hopefully, the chill will be off a little tonight with the heater down very low.
