Just some disclosure here… I have used many Carlisle tires for many miles, and I too have never had a failure with them either… I am not being critical of their tire… I have them on my utility trailer right now…
I do take issue with the company like Carlisle that knew for 35 years of the importance of using the added cap ply in radial construction but chose to cut cost and ignore it for all those years…
I don’t think they had an epiphany and added the cap ply just to build a better tire… I think they did it because they were losing market share to another replacement tire company trying to build their reputation on quality, and knowing that their own reputation has been dragged through the mud by users for a long time…
But still IMHO they took one step forward with the cap ply addition and two steps backward by moving production to china, which is a whole other issue…
Would I still use Carlisle???
On my utility trailer that is not loaded all the time overloaded some times and travels shorter distanced close to home, and at lower speeds, I might if they are priced right… I would choose them over another no name brand of Chinese tire that I knew nothing about…
But their very short 2 year warranty doesn’t instill any confidence in me either… if having to replace tires every other year becomes a reality they wouldn’t be cheap at any price…
I am not a cheerleader for Maxxis but my own research and experience with them has me convinced they are the best built ST tire made today, but my research was limited to the 225x75Rx15 size for fitment on my trailer…
