Cash or Credit

I was just at my gas station. Pump said I could only get $150.00 of fuel on the credit card. other cards are lesser amounts. How does one by fuel while traveling? Cash only?

  • Wife has a card, I have a card, same bank account. Or go inside and let them run your card, no limit then.
  • I pay at pump as often as possible. I don't care to wait in line, or interact with the employees. It is rare that I can get 35 gallons or so for the 39 gallon tank in the Suburban on one swipe. Near home I have a couple preferred stations that allow enough $ per transaction to fill and cost per gal is fair.
  • That is just for no sign at the pump. You can always go in and get as much as your credit limit or swipe your card twice at the pump.
  • I'll just run the card twice.
But, I like to stop often for gas and stretch my legs. Usually $150.00 is enough to top off the gas tank.
I have a 100 gallon gas tank and don't let the tank get below 1/2. But, that's just me.
  • When I have gone inside I usually get approval to have it run just once. After driving a few hudred miles I need the exercise to walk around anyway.
  • Yep....run card again

I remember when limits where down around $50/$75 and you would have to run card multiple times or even use different card.

All my cards let me run them through twice. As an alternative you can go inside and have the clerk run it through for as much as you need.
