The trick with Dell and HP is that if you buy a laptop from them, buy a business line PC with business-grade service. It will be more expensive, but you will be getting decent CS, not as cheap as possible.
For example, if I were buying from Dell, I'd probably end up paying about $1300 for a decent laptop that has enterprise level bells/whistles (self-encrypting hard disk, hybrid HDD/SDD, Windows 8 Pro, TPM chip, etc.) This will get me something decently fast and decently secure, where if it gets stolen, I just put an insurance claim in and go on.
