I have both CB and Ham in the RV, If I'm traveling in "Convoy" with other rigs (RV or Semi) CB is usually used. but.. Well.. I've been in places where the CB did not do the job, Neither did the VHF/UHF ham gear. Or my cell phones (2 different carriers)
But the HF rig.. Well... Though I do have to set it up when I want to use it, and I've got to be parked to do that.. .IT's never failed me yet.
But you need at least a General class for it.
Just got my general and wondered about that. How does one drive and use the HF rig unless it is pre-programmed? Maybe its much different than my FT-8800 as it may not require any programming (PL tones, offsets etc).
Then again I am solo so I do not have a partner to drive whilst I use the radio. :D
