I carry ham 2M. It is always on but I seldom hear anything on it. I am to blame like the rest of us who are on 52, just listening. If you you don't announce your presence, nobody knows you are there. Guilty, guilty, guilty.
Ham repeaters are fantastic & extend range over huge areas but most require programming access subtones. Fidgeting with the radio is just as dangerous as fooling with the cellphone. There is far too much of doing that distraction already on the highways.
Still, having the VHF has been useful, helping us by way of a local ham, steer around a thunderstorm in Kansas one day.
