Welcome to the world of Big Brother. The info sharing is going both directions. Some US citizens who have a concealed carry permit in the US are being asked by Canadian Customs "Where are your pistols?" instead of the former "Are you carrying any hand guns?". Canadian customs knows which Americans have a permit.
