cell reception options

Not sure exactly where in N Fl the OP is, but I have found Verizon has the best coverage in NFL and S GA of any other company. There may be a few dead spots, as there are some rural areas, but generally service can be found. I would suggest a booster of some type. Verizon is about the only company that works well where my house is located... Even had the ATT service guy have to borrow my cell phone to get a call out, when he was working on my land line.

you could also get a MagicJack, available online or at walmart, etc. it is a small dongle type device, one end plugs into your computer USB port, the other end plugs into a standard phone. this is basically VOIP (voice over internet protocol)

X2 Phone will use WIFI as it's primary carrier. If WIFI is not available, then the phone will search for a cell tower. Republic has different plans ranging from $5/month to $45/month. The only catch is that you have to purchase a phone.

We are at Eglin AFB and have Sprint for service and the reception is poor to say the least. Purchased a booster from Wilson Amplifiers and it increased our bar strength from 1/2 bars to 4/5 bars and now we can Skype with the kids/Grandkids without going to a building 2-3 miles away. We can do it inside the MH. It says can increase up to 45dh and can work with both DW and my phone at the same time. It cannot give you service if you have no bars, but if its weak it will boost to give good service. Also you phone can use wifi to call if you go to your settings and turn it on. Hope this helps....

Never heard of that. Googling shows it ranges from unnecessary to dangerous on 4G phones.

Verizon website says it is for 3g phones not for 4g phones.
I have a 3g phone and travel full time so I use it often.

I think the best advice is to see what works for others there.

We use to use two phones on different systems hoping to get service from at least one while out and about. My original Cricket phone that roamed on Verizon was nearly useless up in the hills, Honeys T mobile (roams on AT&T) was functional but just barely.

last year Cricket was bought by AT&T and I had to get a new phone. Wow what a difference it made. up in the hills it works nearly as fast as it does here in town. The web loads at normal speeds and we can even stream if needed. After a month Honey dumped T mobile and got a Cricket phone too. The best part is that for $55 a month, it is pretty much unlimited everything. Even with Honey downloading music videos a lot we haven't come close to the slow down point of our data plans.

X3 on Google phone. Works well down to mid-range wi-fi strength and unless you're paying for the wi-fi, it's FREE!

We have been using Skype for 5 years or more. You do need good wifi and you need to set up account and put in ten or fifteen dollars to call a phone numbers. That cash stays in your account until it's used up. We have never used up the full deposit in three to four months of calling back to Canada. It only costs a few penny per minute.
