Chaining axle to frame?

It looks like he added a bump stop to the underside of the frame. Between that and the frame, not much travel distance and something will break.

If you read the link to the thread, it's a utility trailer. Bump stop was added so that when heavy loads are in the trailer, the axle won't rest on the frame. Too little trailer and needs a 1 ton truck and maybe LT tires...

One probable reason is if you were to load two Harleys on a soft sprung trailer. When the first one is run up and on, the trailer is going to be really unstable and a real #@%^ to load the second. Chaining as in the picture makes for a more stable platform.

I don't see any broken spring leaves that's how they were made. :) Too smooth the be a brake anyway.....

I can see the point about preventing the wires being snagged by debris but other than that, I see no purpose to it.

Have done this a couple of times on utility trailers when a spring broke. Took off the tire and wheel and chained it up.

Looks like they were made that way. The shortest leaf extends just beyond the axle on the other side as well.

I thought too that it is not a travel trailer. My thought is that he will use it off road and he is trying to keep the wires from being ripped off by sagebrush or whatever.
