Did I miss the memo or something about safety chains? For 30 years, I have always crossed my safety chains to provide a basket for the tongue in the horrific event the coupler comes loose of the ball....

This subject comes up all the time. The idea that you can cradle the trailer tongue is something that is almost impossible. You cross the chains so that they don't pull tight in a sharp turn.
