Not sure whether you have a travel machine or not but if the power requirement isn't too great you could run it off a couple of batteries and an Inverter maybe.
You would need a ventilated cover for a generator probably. I have a Honda 2K and wouldn't run it in the rain. I have provisions for a waterproof cover for mine but doubt anyone else has a setup like mine.
For a make shift cover I would chain my generator to the front bumper and close the hood on a tarp and run the tarp at a 45* angle to the ground and use tent nails to secure it in an emergency.
Mine does not have a Battery. It is strictly AC.
Can you provide Pictures of your Setup?
Here is a pic of my Generator tray and I have a 2K Honda affixed to the passenger side with all 4 feet anchored plus an aluminum box cover with two locks and chain when the gen is running with the box stored on the rear. I also have a transfer switch inside and a 30 amp cord run to the front permanently.
I do not however run the Gen while sleeping even though I have a propane and a CO detector in the RV. If it is raining I close the hood on a tarp and run the other end at 45* and anchor with tent pegs.
