charging rates

We are planning a fall trip using state and national forest sites that no electrical hookups. Idea is to stay at each site a day or two and move on. Traveling between sites, what battery recharge rate should I expect from the truck and can I boost that by running the RV generator at the same time we are traveling.

  • On a class C it would depend on how it's wired. If you have good heavy charge wires from you engines charging system then it might charge quicker.
If the wiring is light then a good quality converter powered by your gen. will do better.
  • We have found that if our 2 6 volt batteries are about 1/2 charge a good 4-5 hour trip down the road pretty much tops them off.
  • There will be little charging from the tow vehicle.

Run the generator and lots of charging will happen, if you have a good quality converter (not wfco).
  • Why not install a solar system and use driving and generator for charging only when necessary? Solar for RVs isn't a fad or toy.
