Check this if you've bought a used RV recently

I was putting the dog out yesterday and heard the infamous beep from the 5er. Ah, the old dead battery in the dinner is ready alarm.
I go find and test a 9V battery and pull down the alarm. There wasn't even a battery in the thing.
The beep was the LP/propane alarm near the floor.
My fault for not testing the alarm in January when we bought it but it never crossed my mind. Go check yours today.
  • I check both alarms before using the TT every time. Why, because according to
the Wisconsin DNR, an average of 5 people per year die from CO poisoning in hunting shacks, ice shacks, and campers. I know that it is not many, but I will not be one of them.
I am a DNR Hunter Education instructor and make sure that everyone hears this information while in our classes. It may save a life.
  • Here is another angle on the CO detector. Shortly after purchasing my trailer, when it was just about 4 years old I heard the beep during the day. I have all the documentation so I read about this thing. They suggest that you test it every spring and at least once during each season. I also read that under certain conditions, like dusty roads, the sensor becomes affected by a covering of dust. The test actually shakes this dust off. I have been doing this for about 10 years now and it still is working. I certainly will replace it when it stops.

The DW tests the smoke detector daily while camping.

As a bonus, it usually means dinner is ready.
