Once there, don your full on bio-hazard suit, and approach the unit from upwind.
Carry a 12 ga. pump shot gun. Chamber a round well away from the camper so the familiar "shick clack" sound does not carry.
Use the moccasin feet approach to the camper.
Survey the unit carefully... if the door is still attached, you are okay to stand down.
If the door is dangling like a bear went through it, have the 12 bore ready if you choose to walk up and take a look.
If bear tracks are present coming and going you are probably ok to approach and photo the damage for the insurance claim.
Other than that don't worry about rotting food in your camper :)
