The closest I've come to this was having some meat in a sealed container. In an ice chest that I used for a weekend trip and forgot about (left in my truck's bed) in Texas 100 degree temps.
A week later, I noticed the ice chest, opened it... said sealed container apparently violently came unsealed. Needless to say, the ice chest went into the trash post-haste. Thankfully it was a cheap one, and not a high end Yeti cooler.
I'd take the time to get the stuff out of the fridge, as well as use airing position cards or door latches to keep the doors ajar for ventilation. If the smell gets into the plastic, it is a lot more expensive to replace that than the trip over and back.
