Do you have any friends or relatives that have a U.S. address? If so, you might want ask them to use their address for mailing purposes. I worked for a department of motor vehicles during my working years and most states will not process vehicle titles of ownership and registration without a physical address. You can use a post office box address for mailing, but in Michigan you also needed a physical address listed on the ownership documents.
In most states where you purchase a vehicle, but reside in another state, you can apply for an in-transit permit in the selling state. In doing so you are usually exempt from paying tax in the selling state, but expected to pay tax in your residence state.
As mentioned by a previous poster, there are some states where you can be listed as a "resident". As I recall South Dakota was one that was mentioned most often. Montana may have been another. I don't know how you do this though. Below is the website ccsnola posted.
