Christmas trip to Florida...any tips?

We've winterized our motorhome and decided to make a quick trip to Jacksonville, FL via SUV and a nights stay in a motel about halfway there (NC or SC). Anyone know of any Christmas activities going on along the way? We're leaving central PA traveling 81s-77-26 and 95. Also wondering if anyone knows of a nice, clean, bed-bug free hotel in the NC or SC areas that are pet friendly. We'd probably take our motorhome in better weather if we had more time but this was a spur of the moment decision and we're taking the safer way down. Once we get there we have accommodations at a private home so basically need a place half way. Thanks for your help!

    Surry Inn at Dobson, NC.

    Off I77 and 12 miles from Mount Airy, birthplace of Andy Griffith.

    We haven't stayed there for a few years but used to stop every trip to Florida and again on trip back. It was just a clean ordinary no frills motel with reasonable prices.

    We don't have pets but various websites say the Surry Inn is pet friendly.

    We just spent Thanksgiving in Charleston and they have a lot going on.

    Lots of Hotel options and a neat city to visit, with Holiday spirit, all around.

    When I traveled for the company, I stayed at Embassy Suites. Free cooked to order breakfast every morning, free cocktails before dinner, good restaurant, pool and exercise room. All two room suites, with TV, mini fridge, and couch in the living room. All doors face the atrium, not outside. NOT cheap, but you're only talking about one night. Check the link for locations and prices.
    I don't know about pet friendly. They have a state list, but it doesn't include all states. Call first.

    Pick a halfway town and do a Google search for `______ motels' or `_____ hotels', put the town in the space and take your pick.
