Wow!!! You folks sure have some scary stories. I am very thankful that you all survived to RV another day. Semi truck drivers are supposed to be some of the best on the road. But, a Les Schwab semi with a pup passed on a scenic byway along Abert Rim in Eastern Oregon. It is a narrow, winding road with an abrupt scarp fault on one side and a semi dry lake bed on the other. His pup almost went off the road swerving and almost got in our lane to hit us. Hubby slowed down thankfully. I am wondering why he was in such a hurry to deliver tires. And, those trucks that the extraction drivers wear these humongous brush guards (probably for cattle in open range and deer/elk/other ungulates). You would never survive a head on with one of these. And, they drive like maniacs, passing and speeding and over the line on curves. It makes me want to drive off road in the desert. Two lane highways are the worst.
We are getting a heady duty bumper/brush guard with a light array for visibility and survival. We may not survive a crash with an armored semi but the old people who live on 101 (coastal Oregon is a retirement haven and I mean really old people who you know see you but make a sudden lurch out into traffic like the old gal in a previous poster's comments) maybe will think twice. Even a bright red truck doesn't seem to help.
Safe travels wherever you go.
