A few years ago we inherited 1/3 of a commercial peach orchard from my wifes sister when she passed away. It was in a trust. My wife was the executrix of the trust. Her car and farm truck were not in the trust but passed to the trust when she passed.
The DMV said the titles of the vehicles could not be changed to reflect the trust as owner. It took seven visits to the local DMV offices and multiple phone calls to the honchos in Denver before a ruling came down to the local level that instructed them to do it.
I was afraid this issue would end up like that and was very happy it went so smoothly - relatively smoothly anyway.
The date really didn't matter except I wanted it correct to avoid any potential issues when I sell it as a 2004 model.
