The difference is the fuel cost is minimal for electric, not like gas or diesel, so it's actually very good advertising - especially since many people beyond those using it will be 'impressed'.
Then there are those who tell people to suck their exhaust fumes, direct from the pipe. That doesn't translate into good anything for most people.
