We use a plain old basic Mr Coffee machine that sells for about $15 at Walmart. We haven't broken the glass carafe in the nine years we've used it. When we don't have electric available, we just heat up a pan of water, open the top of the Mr Coffee, and pour it through the basket. Works perfectly. We use an "Airpot" style insulated carafe to store coffee for use during the day as desired.
