Cold Weather Camping

Question

Hey everybody! We currently live in SW Florida full-time in our 2022 Thor ACE model 29.5 (Class A). We've only been in it for about a 1 - 1/2 months so far (hurricanes caused us to buy it and move in very quickly) so we are still figuring things out as we go.

We'd like to take it up to see family (Connecticut, Pennsylvania, & Indianna) for about two weeks over Christmas so the pets can tag along. We will probably sleep in it at the first stop (2-3 days) but will still have access to the family house for water, power, etc. The next two stops we'll probably close it up as those houses have a bit more space. We could probably get a 30amp hookup at each place if needed.

Our unit has the black and grey tank heaters already installed. Is there anything specific that we should check or plan for (i.e. wrap pipes in extra installation?)?

Having owned an Ace years ago I can tell you they are not good cold weather RV's. Coming back from a trip to FL to our home in MD at the time, we encountered freezing temps. In a few hours the water pump and lines started to freeze. We also found the front Cap was insulated poorly and developed a lot of condensation and the cockpit really drafty. My feet would freeze while driving. Your best bet in freezing temps is to winterize the rig, run antifreeze through the lines, drain the water heater, etc. An ounce of prevention. You'll also burn through a lot of LP running the furnace in cold temps. You can certainly do what you are talking about but just prepare the rig for any freezing temperatures.
