Or one can install one of the three or four all steel ply LTE LT offerings if they have 6k axles of under and not worry about their tires for 6 to 8 years.
If it were only that simple. You cant just slap an LT of the same size and get the same carrying capacity. You have to size up to do that. And sizing up means you have to get rims and have the room to do that.
Sizing up to an LT is a valid method to over come a fear. Just dont size up to michelin's LT's. ;)
On my travel trailer, I took the very common sized 205/75-14 load range C ST tire off, and replaced them with load range D LT tires in 185-14 ( 82 series ). The existing rims are the correct width for the new tires, and are of sufficient capacity to carry the pressure and load. So we can see that sometimes it is that simple. There are a lot of travel trailers using this 14" wheel with 5.5" width. That is the correct rim width for a 185R-14, a 195R-14 and a 205R-14.
And to Fast Eagle's point about inflation, loading and the 65mph speed restriction (ST tires), he makes valid points that if a poster talks about these critical issues, the poster often gets body slammed from various angles. That's too bad because it has chased away some intelligent and thoughtful posters.
Staying within load recommendations is often not that hard with some careful shopping for tires. Keeping tires inflated correctly is just plain common sense, and the 65 mph speed restriction is easily enough dealt with by replacing with LT type tires.
