RVUSA here puts his finger on the central problem with any trailer tire discussion here at RV.net- the vocal minority that seizes on ANY trailer tire discussion to go on and on and on saying essentially exactly his red-highlighted words.
Nearly all such threads get seized control of by this "controversy". Almost without exception the inevitable wrangling leads to thread closure- and in the case of someone who's actually asked for recommendations that's probably best since most ardent participants stick with the above generalization, refusing to recommend a specific tire. Which is all such an O.P. wants to hear to begin with.
This thread is no exception to this "who cares what the O.P. was?" rule.
The question asked is/was "why are ST tires rated to carry more weight than LT tires of comparable sizes?".
Eleven pages later, there are darn few answers here addressing that question.
