Confused about my 2009 Chevy Equinox LS for dinghy towing

The manual was written by the Manufacturer, not a third party. Which one do YOU think is more likely to be correct?
Put it another way, if your Equinox was still under warranty, you flat-towed it and fried the transmission, do you really think it would be covered?
Getting another vehicle is the correct answer.
