Confused about power awning

My power awning only works if the trailer is plugged into the shore or hooked up to my TV. That can't be right? Can it? If so I just want to say that's stupid.... But more realistically what can it be?
  • sounds to me the question needs to be is there a batt is is hocked up? Is there a batt discontect swiitch if so is it on

Like said above the quick check to see if the batteries are working (Connected) is just turn on the CEILING LIGHTS when not connected to shore power. The Ceiling lights runs off your 12VDC (Your batteries in this case with shore power turned off).

If they do not work then you have either dead batteries or something failed between the batteries and the converter. Could be as simple as the Battery Disconnect switch has been engaged or a tripped circuit breaker or fuse that is installed between the battery terminals and the 12VDC Distribution panel where all the fuses are are located...

Using a multimeter to measure the battery terminals when shore power is disconnected is 12.6-7VDC for a fully charged battery. When you connect to shore power this battery level should jump up to 13.6VDC telling you the batteries are being charged by the on-board converter/charger unit.

  • If you are not plugged into shore power, do the house lights and water pump work? If they do not, do you have a battery? If you do, did the battery disconnect switch get flipped to "off"?

Your awning runs on 12 volt DC battery power. If it only runs when plugged in, it's running from the converter, the battery is somehow disconnected from the trailer.
  • Maybe your battery is low, can you operate the slides?

  • Everything else works on just the RV batteries that should work?
