Yet another reason why the FairTax (or a similar variation) is the best method of taxation for a free society. Threads like this would never exist. And we'd all know exactly what tax is owed at all times. NO MORE IRS!!!!!!!!!!!
What does this have to do with various State taxes to fund their operations?
OP if you are still reading... I see two legal options: Buy the RV while you live in VA as it's 4.10% sales tax is lower than many places. After six months move to Fla and pay the first year's fees of less than $500 ($225 out of state vehicle registration fee plus title transfer and tag fee) to title the RV in Fla. From then on a two year tag is $165. The aprox $500 will apply to your cars too.
Or after selling out, move to a no sales tax state, rent a place and become a resident. Buy the RV and after six months move to Fla. Is saving $12K on a $300K RV worth this? Is worrying about the legality of a Montana LLC for seven years worth $12K.
Thank you and your family for your service but it has nothing to do with this situation. Good luck with your choices.
