As I have said many times before, it is really very simple:
Know the law(s).
Comply with the law(s).
Document your compliance with the law(s).
If the law in your home state says that if you bring a newly purchased vehicle home from another state you must immediately register it in your home state and pay the applicable taxes on the purchase, then you would be smart to NEVER bring that vehicle "home". As long as it never shows up in your home state with Montana plates on it, your home state tax agency can't say anything about it!
