Constantly supplying antifreeze all winter instead of heat?

I'm doing an SUV conversion (Highlander hybrid) and don't want to set up a battery system to heat the plumbing fixtures/pipes all winter. What if I just constantly dumped food grade antifreeze concentrate in my water tank and showered with that all winter?

I'll only be using this system for showers, not drinking water. I'm looking at an Atwood on demand propane water heater and Shurflo heatpump if that helps at all.

Thanks!
  • 3) keep the entire unit heated. If that isn't enough then it's too cold for you to be living in it.
  • lol easy, I'm a beginner. I didn't realize the stuff was sticky.

So basically my only options are

1.) completely evacuate the whole plumbing system each time it goes below freezing

    or

2.) find a power source to heat the pump, pipes, etc for the nights it gets below freezing?

The problem with option 1 is I've read that even a drop of water can break a fixture, so it sounds risky.

So if 2 is all I can do, what's the lowest wattage pipe heater/heat tape out there? The Highlander and other Toyota hybrids have a feature where you can leave it "on" and lock it it will run on battery power. The engine will start every once in a while briefly to charge the battery back up. I suppose if I turn everything off and just have a heat tape running of the 12V battery, it could probably run off the battery for 6 hours or so before the engine would start.
  • Why don't you give it a test try.
    Wash your face and hands.
Try washing your hair, see how it feels after a few hours.
    Let us know.
  • If it's warm enough to live in the pipes won't freeze.
Taking a shower in antifreeze is just a joke, right?
  • You could also just dump cheap vodka into your tank and shower in that....
and you could cook with it and drink it also...unlike anti-freeze.

  • jfkmk, my thoughts also, but lately you just never can tell..

So just in case the OP really is serious I would hope my post will deter some potential stupidity from happening even if wasn't the OPs (remember OTHER potential RVrs DO read these forums to get ideas)..

    Umm.. I am totally speechless..

    Have you priced RV antifreeze?

Do you really understand what RV antifreeze is made of?

Do you realize that RV antifreeze is not going to feel "clean" what so ever?

Do you realize just how dumb of an idea this is?

I honestly thought he was just trying to get a rise out of someone.
