If Christian, there are various camping volunteer construction organizations. And don't forget Habitat for Humanity. Most are strictly volunteer with no pay, but often a free campsite.
I'm Lutheran and as a "Laborer of Christ" work every summer building Churches, Preschools or Fellowship Halls for the past 8 years, ranging from 3-11 months (usually around 6 months) and am paid the local minimum wage (usually $7.25/hour) for legal/OHSA, Workmen's Comp purposes as we're officially employed by the Church. Part of a team that ranges in size from 4-8 fellow Laborers depending on the size of the job. Usually we're parked/camping on the Church Parking lot or field with full Hookups provided.
