I was watching reports of the damage and two commentators were saying that, given the choice between staying in a house with no shelter or fleeing, it would be better to get in the car and try to flee. The ditch option was also not advised because of the potential of being impaled by the debris.
I was thinking about the dedicated shelter options and, in speaking of school sized buildings, I don't think it would add a lot to the cost to build a reinforced concrete shelter. The shelter could have a dual purpose such as a storage room or even a library.
Yeah, we all couldn't move away from potential tornados, that would empty quite a few states.
