I lived in Kansas City for 15 years, had to 'take cover' three times in 15 years. I respect the weather but do not fear it. I now live in central Va, I have had to 'take cover' twice in the last three years and one missed the house by less then 500yds. It doesn't mater your location weather is to be respected.
I look at the weather and try to avoid going into storms. If I were traveling in an RV, and a storm poped up, I would get out of the RV a try to find a Wallmart, Lowe's, home depo or other concrete building, and take cover near a wall or in a bathroom.
