But I wouldn't want RV sitting in the intense high desert sun.The homes I'm considering are sound cosmetic fixers but don't include RV parking garages. The goal here is not some kind of dream house but a clean usable second home without breaking the bank. What are prices for permanent shade canopy installed suitable for shading a 25' RV? I would prefer some side shading too but don't want to spend for a full-on barn or garage.

if zoning will allow it, and HOA etc. will, then those steel modular types can have the sides added and will be about as reasonable as possible. bumpy

Build the roof for shade, and enclose the sides later?

Family has cabin in Landers which has been subject to break ins. Way out in middle of nowhere.What do you think about areas in YV such as Sky Harbor, Western Hills, Country club area? Is the crime/break-in issue as bad? One real negative would be if I was always dealing with break ins or that threat.

I have a 31' long, 18' wide and 10' tall leg (almost 13' at peak) Carolina Carport with the boxed eaves and paid about $2300 for it. Because of where we live, we had to have the one rated for higher snow load and higher wind speed. I figure this is a bargain to keep my roof clean and dry. I anticipate owning this house for at least 12 years. That equates to $192 a year for covered storage on my property.I can keep my slides open year round, keep windows open to reduce humidity. I keep the area around the trailer dry so that we can load/unload without dragging in mud.

Wish I had enough room on my lot to store my 5'er. In Phoenix, covered storage lots charge upwards of $100/month. Closest lot to my home wants $275/month because it has power outlets at each spot.

I put down gravel and purchased a metal shelter. I enclosed 3 sides and faced the back of the shelter south. I used to have a horse trailer that was housed in a shelter that only had a roof and the sides and rear were really damaged from the sun, so I think it is very worth it to get sides and the rear enclosed. We put a rail of cement on the sides so we could secure the base of the shelter. It was the most cost effective way we could find to completely protect the RV from the sun.

friends at work had a cabin in western VA and they ended up just leaving it unlocked with nothing of value inside.

Be sure when you get a new storage location that you protect your RV from rodents, squirrels, etc. An unattended RV is a real attraction and the longer it sets the more that move in.
