CR-V FWD towable?

We currently tow a 2002 CR-V AWD and have done so for many a mile without a problem. It's getting near time for a newer model, so we are considering a 2013/14 CR-V but with front wheel drive rather than all wheel. An auto trans is a must. Are the FWD models flat towable like the AWD models are? Thanks!

  • We love our 2013 AWD EX and CR-Vs only come with auto trans now, I think from 2007 on. I just got done building my fuse switch today, glad a did Honda didn't do us any favors in the placement of the interior switch panel. PS got a good price on the base plate on Amazon.com. Dick
  • DW describes our current CR-V as the perfect car. Thinking after the post I checked out the dingy guide as Janss suggested. I never thought of the tow dolly option with the FWD models. Looks like another CR-V is on the radar screen. I use a Vectormade fuse switch in the 2002 radio circuit and have had no problems with battery drain. Thanks for all the postings.
  • I tow a 2013 crv FWD. Its great, just as all the crv's are.
however there is one difference you need to know about. The later models have much more hidden electrical parasitic draws on the battery.
My manual states to pull the radio fuse when extended towing, It should say for any towing over a few hours as the battery will go dead fairly rapidly. You cannot tow for a full day or close to it and expect it to start.
A charge line to your battery or a fuse switch is a must.
There are many posts here about the fuse switch and charge line. I built my own fuse switch from an article here that I read and it works great, no dead battery.
  • Yes, both FWD and AWD models can be towed 4 wheels done (page 235 of the owners manual). Only difference is that the FWD can also be towed on a dolly, where as the AWD cannot, only 4down or on a trailer. No difference at all between the 12, 13 or 14 models.

  • Both the FWD and 4WD models with auto transmission are listed as flat towable in Motorhome magazine's 2013 Dinghy Guide.

I always think it best to look at the owner's manual when you are at the dealer though.
