CR-V Towing Question

Ivan, turn on motorhome ignition switch, go to trailer connector and plug in umbilical cord (mine goes from 7 pin to 6 pin but yours may be 7 pin to 7 pin or other configuration) with voltmeter test the pin connections on the unplugged end of the umbilical cord and find the pin that has 12 volt (most probably the 11:00 or 1:00 position. From there, identify the pin on the towed car that corresponds to the 12v. Take a piece of 10 gauge wire and attach one end to the corresponding pin on the towed connector. Put a piece of wire loom on the wire and feed it through an empty space to the battery. Buy an in line 20 amp auto fuse holder and fuse and attach one end to the wire and the other end to the positive terminal of the battery. Use wire ties to secure the wire in the car. Now remove the fuse, hook up the umbilical cord, turn on the ignition switch in the motorhome measure the voltage between ground and the wire at the fuse. should read 12v. If so, put the fuse back in and you are good to go. Any other questions, PM me.

Hello all - I have a 2013 CRV AWD behind a 2012 Class A - and am very interested in this charge line.

is this something someone can do on their own? Does anyone have any drawings, or photos, etc... That can help with this? I installed my own base plates, and tow system - I'm fairly mechanical, but electrical I need a little help:0

This is what we did

I cannot answer for the "supplemental brake system" but by that I presume you mean a Brake Buddy or similar system that sits in front of the drivers seat and actuates the brake pedal. I use a Air Force One system. However, I do tow a 2007 Honda CR-V. And, while installing a charge line is a fine fix, I've found the installation of the dash mounted switch kit the simplest way around the fuse problem. As mentioned by others there is a handy-dandy blank plate just to the right of the steering column of my 2007 CR-V (I cannot answer for newer models. I popped that plate out, drilled a hole in the center and mounted a "rocker" type switch in it (looks NICE). The kit for plugging into the fuse location and running wiring to the switch can be found advertised in most any RV magazine. I think mine cost around $50. BEST money I ever spent. This old body does not contort into the pretzel shape required to pull that *&%$# fuse either. Installation of the kit requires one to twist just the ONE time to install the fuse "end" of the kit and like the raven said...Never More. Hook up your car, flip the switch and your ready to go. Easy Breezy.

My manual on my '11 CRV says to run it through the procedure every eight hours.

This topic comes up a lot. My solution was simple. I replaced the original battery with a much better battery - a Costco battery. About every 3 hours, I'll take a break and run it through the owner's manual procedure.

Yep,
The best answer you'll receive. And, the charge line doesn't have to be fancy. A simple, heavier gauge wire from the trailer plug of the coach, through the pig tail, to the positive on the CRV battery, through a fuse of course, and you're done. You'll NEVER have to pull any fuses.

We've never pulled the fuse on our 2009 CR-V.

The charge line is the answer!! I've towed 5 different Hondas over the years and on the latest one, a 2013 CRV with navigation, we finally had a charge line installed when Camping World wired it for towing. Easy, inexpensive, and no more dead batteries!! We tow it behind our 2002 Bounder which already had the charge line prewired into the factory installed 7 pin plug in the back of the motorhome. No more fuse cutoff switches or pulling fuses.

We've towed our 2010 CRV to Yellowstone, the Rockies, the Grand Tetons, Louisianna, Mississippi, Several trips to FairPlay Colorado, The Great Smokie Mtns and are at Gaffney South Carolina as I write. We've never pulled a fuse.....and yes we have The Toad Charge by LSL Products.
