He may well not know that he knows LGBT folks, lack of familiarity breads contempt, and as the Pope said "who am I to judge". It is not our job, the Bible is very explicit concerning that.
But then, Phil didn't judge any one. He simply stated a Biblical truth. God made the truth, and does the judging.
