When I was a working police dispatcher (now retired) we had over 150 cameras we could watch what was often the best show on Television. The Detroit Free Demolition Derby, with. Very entainering. By the way you can watch it too though it is not as good over the web (www.michigan.gov/mdot and follow the links from there).
My favorite episode of the DDD show was when someone lost a stove (Gas range, the cameras are good enough we can tell the difference) in the 2nd lane of S/B I-75 north of McNicols (six mile) in Detroit.... Very light traffic
We watched people come down the road 2,3,4 at a time, all but the lead car tailgating the guy in front cause that is the way you drive.. Tailgating: If it takes you less than 2 seconds to get to where the rear bumper of the car in front of is now.. YOU ARE TAILGATING, average seperation in Detroit is around 1 second. (Not counting the lead car)
Well, the first car would change lanes at the last second and the ones behind .. They were changing underware I suspect.
We had troopers on the way, also county roads to pick it up.
Finally a group of 3 cars and a pick up came down the road.
First car did the last second lane change
#2, as noted, underware,
#3, We are fairly sure kissed the bumper of #2
and #4, the pick up
he did not stop
He did not slow down
He did now swerve
He place kicked that stove a good quarter mile dropping it on the shoulder
Called the troopers off
Called the county back to re-schedule pick up for the day shift (Lower cost).
County dispatcher ask if the troopers moved it (not their yet)
Some kind citizen stopped (No, he did not stop)
Oh, K,,,,,,,,,,
