You can actually drive around the US and write checks?
I don't find that as amazing as the fact that someone will actually take them.
I am frankly amazed that your able to pay by check away from home. My experience tells me different. Many places around here don't want to take checks unless you have their customer card, plus photo ID and sometimes even another form of ID such as a major CC. With credit cards and ATMs with national bank chains getting cash should be somewhat easy I would think. But then I use very, very little cash.
It is true that I rarely ever go more then 150 miles from home. I did drive from MN to Colorado a few years ago. I found one gas station near the interstate that would only take credit cards. But, most places would take a check. I would ask first to make sure though. If they won't take a check, or cash, I go some place else.
Maybe things are getting that bad I can't say, like I said I stay close to home. (Very little crime here either)
Last thing I need is to use a cred card somewhere and have the number stolen. Thankfully, my card is only good up till $3000 dollars but, I sure would hate to lose that money. Plus, by the time they charge you all the fees, fines, and surcharges a 75 dollar gas bill becomes a 100 bucks. Some of my friends live on a cash only basis and don't even have a bank.
I realize that doesn't help the OP though.
