Easycamper; If it is NOT good enough for you to eat, what gives you the idea the border guards have a feast in their lunchroom? If your statement was a joke, so be it, Ha ha. :)

It was a joke, although not a particularly good one I admit.:)
Although I'm sure it has changed more than a little in the past 40 years, my dad worked as border guard on the Candadian side of the Detroit-Windsor tunnel in the 70's.
Two stories he tells that stick in my mind are as follows:
Once when a shipment of watermelons was coming north, the guards decided it was necessary to confiscate exactly one watermelon, which did end up in the lunchroom somehow.;)
On another occasion, a US citizen was coming into Canada after travelling through downtown Detroit. My dad asked the driver if he had any firearms. The answer was: "Yes, sir. And it's pointed right at your head!" The guy had rigged a shotgun up under the dash pointing out the driver’s side window in case he encountered any nefarious characters in Detroit. Needless to say, he had to leave his gun behind.
