Curious- bouncy trailer question

I have a 23 ft travel trailer, and a 14 ft aluminum stock horse trailer. I towed them both with my 2000 3/4 ton Suburban with no issues.

Last summer I got a new 2014 3/4 ton Suburban. The hitch receiver is 7 inches higher on the frame now. Why? I think its stupid design. So I have to buy all new hitches.

No problem with the travel trailer and the Equilizer hitch towing.

No problem with the horse trailer towing as long as it has a load (full or hay, or several horses.)

But empty towing, it bounces all over. So whats this mean? Not enough tongue weight? Do I need sway bars or stabilizer bars? It tends to make me somewhat seasick.

  • Reads as if you've already stated your case...the only thing that changed was the tow vehicle itself and the hitch point, start there then think about alternative hardware.
  • Does the horse trailer tow nose high? If so, you need to lower the hitch height to level or slightly nose low. A longer shank may be required for your equalizer hitch.
