I think we sometimes forget that this is an open for and not "Just Answer".
Within all the chit chat and discussion you may get the precise answer you are looking for. You may get an response that is close to the answer, you may get a response that is totally off topic.
That is the nature of internet forums. Free forums like this one are typically less focused because its members come from a more at large community vs. a pay forum which typically has a more dedicated membership.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for this forum has a wealth of knowledge , sometimes you have to sift through the erroneous chit chat to get to it.

I've seen it. In most cases the reason for it is that other people see other options. An obvious fix to one person may not be so obvious to somebody with different experiences.

I don't see it as a negative comment as much as another option.

It makes me wonder if perhaps you should be more specific? However, a person shouldn't answer a question with a question.

One time, in band camp.......

what question do you want a answer for? sure happens all the time question is about a roof leak and somebody starts talking about there grand kids.
