Bought a dash cam for the rig. With the guy making a left turn a cross my bow and causing thousands of dollars in damage, I've been thinking. People cutting in front of me at highway speeds, merging traffic, people running stop signs and lights, motorcycles cutting in and out, bicyclists, joggers and jaywalkers. I think a video dash cam could pay off someday. Plus record some scenic drives. Anybody else have a dash cam or thought about it? They are not that expensive.

I have one and my problem is I can't get the darn thing to record for hours and hours like the ad said. I'm now on 720p and will see after our drive on Tues if 720 helps. I love the recordimgs and even get a kick out of folks reactions when I let them know I'm in the lane next to them. I add a Bad Boy horn and its pretty loud.Our primary purpose was to COAs if in an accident and to get good clear photos of the State Line signs as we go from one state to another. I bought one for $28 and it was stolen and this one was $40 and has a good picture. This summer I'm going to buy a really good one. I figure somewhere near $250. Going to get a portable hard drive to transfer recordings each day.Look for one with a G force lock on the recorder. It will stop you from accidently erasing any accident.

I bought one after a drunk driver nailed me and did 20G damage to my truck.Yeah I know, kinda like closing the barn door after the horse runs away... But just in case....So I have one now that records everything that goes on in front of me. I may never need it, but what if I do? I paid 100 bucks for mine. Not the best unit, but there is now video evidence of my every move, as seen out my windshield.I think they are an essential thing for us. It never ceases to amaze me how some clown thinks it is his mission to cut me off and do a quick turn, standing on the brakes, thinking that my 15000 plus pound rig can stop on a dime. A lot of idiots out there.

I haven't had much luck with dedicated dashcams bought through EBAY. The video quality has been pretty much unusable on a few I've tried from U.S. sellers. I now just use my Android Smartphone recording 720P HD using the free app DailyRoads Voyager. Works extremely well, and records not just date/time, but can also display speed and GPS coordinates in the recorded video. Can also be setup to auto start and offers continuous recording, reusing the space occupied by old temp dashcam files unless you press the large red video button that saves that current file. Will also save the current video if it detects an impact.There are a few draw backs to using a Smartphone as a dashcam. You need to find a suitable windshield mount that wont block the camera's lense. And stability can be an issue where road bumps and vibrations are also recorded in the dashcam video.Plus, current Android devices cannot overlay dashcam display info over recorded video. However, you can view the recorded data on your computer by enabling CC(Closed Captioning) in your media player, such as VLC.The developer offers a service to burn in the data on your dashcam videos for a small fee. But you can do it yourself fairly easily using a freeware video converter. When I get some time, I'll post some dashcam examples and how to use the converter.In the meantime, you may want to search the "Technology Corner" for a couple of threads on dedicated dashcams recently.

Not real sure of the quality but they run anywhere from $40 to $100. I paid $70 for mine and it is rated one of the top. You can get a lot more expensive like GoPro but they are much more than a simple dash cam. I think they are a good CYA tool.

I bought one after a neighbor walked in front of my wife while pulling out of the driveway. I drive all over the city and have recorded a few drivers stupid tricks. Roadhawk HD

I have been thinking about getting a dash cam since our truck is invisible. Has to be with the number of cars and pickup drivers that pull out in front of it.

I got a reasonably priced SD card for mine. since it records in a loop doesn't need a really large one.
