I had a one-man shop for several years ... client came in, we made a contract. Twenty percent up-front. The rest in installments as the work progressed. Nothing left my shop (I delivered) until PIF ... then, it got loaded in delivered that same day, if practical.
Any client could come in any day and see progress as payments occurred.
I know, not practical in a huge corporation. That's why everyone complains, that's why everything costs more than it should. We've become a 'volume world' instead of a 'customer service' world. That's why the recycling business is a huge money fountain now.
Almost no where is pride in craftsmanship anymore. Build it as fast as we can, sell it as fast as we can, and fix it later. that's why the warranty is such a hassle too, everyone KNOWS it's gonna break.
It's just how far a buyer will push it before the MFGR will perform on the shoddy product it built, sold, and broke.
